Abstract:
Approximately 17% of the students in the Tucson Unified School District are limited English proficient. Advocates and members of the National Limited English Profiency Advocacy Taks Force filed a complaint agains the TUSD, alleging that the district was discriminating against LEP students and parents by not providing interpretation or translation services. The TUSD signed formal agreements with the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights ensuring that all TUSD programs would be acccesible to persons with limited English skills.Available online at: http://www.leptaskforce.org/Documents/HHC%20Agreement.pdf.
