Abstract:

The program reintegrated Navajo law into the court system. Support followed with the Tribal council passing the Judicial Reform Act of 1985. The Judicial Branch created the Navajo Peacemaker Division which is a community led, consensus-based dispute resolution. It provides an alternative to resolving disputes by using a community leader.
